6.5% of citizens in Alaska unemployed in 2021

Alaska's unemployment rate hit 6.5% among residents aged 16 and 65 years old in 2021. That's 25,054 people out of the 735,951 living in Alaska at the time, according to data U.S. Census Bureau data obtained on Oct. 26, 2023.

The unemployment rate in Alaska has decreased compared to the 6.8% registered in 2020.

The percentage of people unemployed in Alaska was greater than the national unemployment rate of 5.5%.

Of the 358,741 people who had a job during that time, 20,077 were employed in the Armed Forces and 338,664 belonged to the civilian labor force.
