(Fairbanks, AK) - Tis the season for travel! Fairbanks International Airport welcomes in the holiday season with you, your family, and friends. If you intend to travel in the next few months by air, we recommend following a simple guide: Plan, Prepare, Go.
Plan by discussing travel times and destinations with all who may travel with you. Include the time it takes to get from your home or place of lodging to the airport and determine what time you will leave.
Prepare for travel by
- Arriving at the airport at least 2 hours prior to flight departure time.
- Watching for weather warnings and road conditions.
- Monitoring departure times closely with your airline. The weather may cause delays and cancellations, be prepared to contact those you’re visiting and you’re lodging with about alternative solutions.
- Having ID and boarding pass(es) for all travelers (and passports for international travel).
- Real ID’s will be required no later than May 3, 2023, in Alaska for air travel, for access to federal buildings and military bases.
- Remembering TSA ‘s liquid restrictions for carryon luggage. Any transparent container with more than 3.4 ounces will be confiscated. Store larger liquids in checked baggage.
- Considering TSA Precheck, it may make air travel swifter, with shorter lines, priority services, and no requirements to remove liquids, electronics or your shoes is a viable option to prevent additional delays.
- Ensuring all international travelers have valid passports greater than 6 months from expiration on hand.
- Making sure that you have your car plug-in cord in the car if you’re driving to and parking at the FAI airport. Airport parking lots are equipped with plug-in towers for subzero temperatures.
Go have fun! Snow fall doesn’t mean a miserable winter. If we practice safety and extend courtesy to one another it helps everyone accomplish the same goal, to return home safely. Continue to be amazing Alaskans and help us Keep Alaska Moving!
