Veteran spotlight: Bryan | Alaska Department of Natural Resources
Veteran spotlight: Bryan | Alaska Department of Natural Resources
From November 5, 2022 post.
Today’s DNR Veteran spotlight is Bryan, who served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 5 years and now works as Wildland Fire and Resource Technician III (Kenai-Kodiak Area) in Alaska DNR - Division of Forestry & Fire Protection - DOF He’s been with DNR for 4 months!
Reason for joining DNR: Completed a 20-year career in the Structural Fire Service in all positions from firefighter to Fire Chief and decided to move over to the Wildland Fire Service to continue my public safety service.
Parallels between military service and work with DNR: Yes, I was a Damage Controlman which is a jack of all trades including Firefighting, Shipboard Damage Control, Carpentry, Plumbing, and Welding. I was stationed at the US Coast Guard Fire Department in Kodiak where I did structural firefighting, wildland firefighting, and aircraft rescue firefighting.
Why Veterans should consider applying to DNR: I would encourage other veterans to join the department as a wildland firefighter as it is a very rewarding, demanding, and well-respected career field.
DNR is honored to recognize the military Veterans who served our country before joining the Department to serve Alaskans. Some of these DNR ambassadors are sharing their amazing stories of service ahead of Veterans Day on November 11. Our sincere thanks to all members of the U.S. military.
