DNR is honored to recognize the military Veterans who served our country before joining the Department to serve Alaskans. Some of these DNR ambassadors are sharing their amazing stories of service ahead of Veterans Day on November 11.
Our first DNR Veteran spotlight is Kyle, who served in the Army for four years and now works as Executive Director for the Office of Project Management and Permitting. He’s been with DNR for 11 years!
Reason for joining DNR: To serve a meaningful role in the responsible management, use, and conservation of Alaska’s vast natural resources for the benefit of Alaskans.
Parallels between military service and work with DNR: My public service through the State of Alaska is similar to my service through the U.S. Army in that both require a commitment to the broader public interest. Additionally, mission success must be achieved through actions by teams rather than individual members.
Why Veterans should consider applying to DNR: The Department of Natural Resources has a critical and complex mission that requires knowledgeable, capable, and dedicated team members to implement effectively. DNR offers veterans opportunities to continue a meaningful career in public service that benefits from the vast technical and leadership skillsets they developed through their military service. DNR values its employees and contributes to their continued growth and individual success through continuing training and education, as well as meaningful work assignments.
