Learn more about preserving the State's history @ the next Alaska Historical Commission meeting! The Commission will meet virtually on Thursday, Nov. 17 to hear updates on historic preservation activities and approve applications for four Certified Local Government grants, 13 Pre-Development and Development Grants, and eight new Preserve Alaska Grants for a total request of $636,547.
The Preserve Alaska Grant is a new grant program offered by the Office of History and Archaeology. The funding is designed to encourage Alaskan communities to identify, interpret, or designate special places that 1) convey important aspects of their unique heritage and 2) contribute to local tourism. Preserve Alaska Grants aim to encourage historic preservation at the local level by supporting heritage/cultural tourism programs and other preservation efforts that use historic assets to stimulate economic vitality and community revitalization.
The meeting will be from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 and is open to the public via Microsoft Teams.

Any person or group wishing to address the Commission on grant applications or other historic preservation issues is invited to participate in the public comment session starting at 10:00 a.m. Those wishing to comment or listen to the meeting must make arrangements in advance.
