History of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)

Today in 1976, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) was signed into law.

RCRA is the public law that creates the framework for the proper management of hazardous waste.

Governor Dunleavy and the Legislature provided funding in FY23 for DEC to create a program for Alaska.

Over the next two years we’ll work to gain approval from the EPA so that Alaska can be the 49th state to run its own hazardous waste program.
