WHEREAS, Alaskans are facing an epidemic of chronic pain due in large part to sedentary lifestyles which continually increase as technology and transportation advances; and

WHEREAS, regular physical activity is essential for the health and well-being of people of all ages, and the benefits include reduced risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and several types of cancer. Physical activity helps weight maintenance, helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints, and helps to relieve the pain of arthritis; and

WHEREAS, in the United States, 50 million U.S. adults struggle with chronic pain and of those, an estimated 19.6 million struggle with chronic pain so severe that it interferes with their daily lives, making work and engaging in social activities nearly impossible; and

WHEREAS, chiropractors play an important role in the health care system in Alaska, and the men and women who choose this field of work are dedicated, professional, and highly educated; and

WHEREAS, chiropractic care seeks to focus on the whole person to manage pain and promote health. The practitioners in this field are trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, and to provide nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle advice to help people enhance their physical fitness and overall wellness; and
