This week's Farm Family of the Year feature is highlighting the previous recipient of 2002: Bob and Jean Havemeister of Havemeister Dairy in Palmer, Alaska!
Bob’s parents, Arnold & Emmy arrived in the Mat-Su Valley in May, 1935, one of 200 Colony families selected by the federal government to settle and farm here during the Depression. Jean Havemeister was recognized by the UAF in 2003 and received the Alaska Woman in Agriculture award. Until recently, Havemeister Dairy was the only Colonist era dairy farm still in operation. Family owned and operated for over 82 years, the Havemeisters were processing, bottling, and selling grade A milk, half n half, and cream from their own on- the- farm creamery. Havemeister Dairy closed in the fall of 2021 and will be greatly missed. We thank the Havemeister family for their contributions to Alaska's agriculture!
