U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) has announced the nomination of 33 Alaskan students to U.S. Military Service Academies for the class entering in 2030. The nominations were made with assistance from an Academy Review Board composed of eleven members from across Alaska, many of whom are graduates of service academies themselves. The board reviewed applications, conducted interviews, and provided recommendations to Senator Sullivan.
“It is a highlight of my job to nominate young Alaskans to our nation’s prestigious military service academies,” said Sen. Sullivan. “These students, from across Alaska and with diverse backgrounds, show the incredible ways our young people are involved in our communities, schools, churches, and homes. They are not only hard workers, but well-rounded, caring individuals who have a desire to serve their country as leaders in the military. My board and I are so pleased to get to know them better and provide them this opportunity to compete to attend an academy.”
Sullivan also expressed gratitude for those who participated in the selection process: “I also want to thank the dedicated members of the review board for volunteering countless hours of their own time to strengthen this process. We hope to see more applications next year and encourage young Alaskans to research the academies and the programs they offer.”
Alaska’s congressional delegation collaborates closely to maximize opportunities for state residents seeking nominations. A nomination allows applicants to compete for appointments at each academy; final appointment decisions are made by the academies.
The nominees include students from various cities such as Anchorage, Fairbanks, Eagle River, Wasilla, Ketchikan, Soldotna, Palmer, Wrangell, North Pole and several military dependents.
Senator Sullivan’s list covers nominations for the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and U.S. Naval Academy. The press release notes that applicants interested in attending the U.S. Coast Guard Academy do not require a Congressional nomination.
