As Alaska’s Primary Election Day approaches on August 20, the state prepares for a significant voting event. The Alaska Division of Elections has explained the process, noting that it employs “A Nonpartisan Pick One Primary…to determine the top four vote getters that will advance to the General Election, regardless of political affiliation.” The Division clarifies that “a primary election candidate does not have to be a member of a political party or a political group to run for office.”

In the political sphere, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) remains active in educating policymakers about the unique challenges faced by small businesses. The NFIB stresses that small businesses are not “smaller versions” of large corporations and face more stringent challenges in staying operational.

The NFIB Alaska, renowned as the state’s largest small business association, has recommended resources to candidates to ensure they understand these challenges. Topics for review include the definitions and distinctions of small businesses, the influence of their collective voice, and legislative victories pertinent to them.

Additionally, the NFIB offers the Path to Public Service program for its members interested in political engagement. This virtual series aims to equip NFIB members with the necessary tools to effectively involve themselves in government and political campaigns.
