President Ronald Reagan will be honored in Alaska on February 6, 2026, as Governor Mike Dunleavy has proclaimed the date as “Ronald Reagan Day.” The proclamation recognizes Reagan’s leadership and his impact on American politics and international relations.

“President Ronald Wilson Reagan was a prominent leader who was dedicated to representing American principles on a global scale,” the proclamation states. It highlights his two terms as the 40th President of the United States and notes his efforts to strengthen and unify the nation.

The statement describes the challenges faced by the country at the time of Reagan’s inauguration in 1981, including high inflation, unemployment, and tense relations with the Soviet Union. According to Governor Dunleavy’s proclamation, “He dedicated significant efforts to reducing federal spending, taxes, and the national deficit, while strengthening national defense and security, revitalizing the Nation and ushering in one of the longest economic expansions in American history.”

It also acknowledges Reagan’s foreign policy approach: “President Reagan’s vision of ‘peace through strength’ and diligent negotiation with Soviet Statesman Mikhail Gorbachev led to the creation of the 1987 Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty, eventually resulting in the end of the Cold War.”

Governor Dunleavy encourages Alaskans to reflect on President Reagan’s legacy: “The legacy of Ronald Reagan is defined by hope, faith, and a bold vision for a stronger American future; and today, we proudly commemorate the 115th anniversary of President Reagan’s birth.”

“NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim February 6, 2026, as: Ronald Reagan Day in Alaska and encourage all Alaskans to reflect on the life, legacy, and great accomplishments of our country’s 40th President.”

Dunleavy has served as Alaska’s governor since his election in 2018 and reelection in 2022. The Office of the Governor regularly recognizes community events through annual gatherings and proclamations honoring individuals such as veterans or first responders (official website). The office also works toward restoring trust in government while promoting business opportunities across Alaska (official website). In addition to these roles, it advances economic development through agreements aimed at improving infrastructure permitting processes (official website).

The governor’s office maintains an advocacy presence for Alaska both within state borders and nationally through its Washington D.C. office (official website). It provides services such as help with state agency issues or requests for proclamations like this one (official website).
