The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) has announced the approval of Amendment #2 to the 2024–2027 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA). This approval will enable DOT&PF to continue advancing transportation projects statewide, support grant recipients, and secure August Redistribution funding. The department expressed gratitude to FHWA and FTA for their quick response and collaboration.

“Federal approval of STIP Amendment #2 ensures we can deliver transportation investments that benefit Alaskans and support local economies,” said Katherine Keith, Deputy Commissioner of DOT&PF. “We are grateful to FHWA and FTA for their partnership and responsiveness as we work to keep projects moving forward.”

Some federally funded projects originally scheduled for 2026 have been postponed due to changes in available state match funding. These adjustments impact the ability to fully leverage federal resources in the near term.

“We’re committed to keeping projects moving and delivering the strongest possible federal program for Alaska,” said Alaska DOT&PF Commissioner Ryan Anderson. “We will be working closely with the Governor’s Office and the Legislature to find a solution that supports aggressive delivery of our federal transportation construction projects. If addressed early in the 2026 session, we expect to return many of the rescheduled projects to their original timelines.”

DOT&PF is experiencing one of its most active construction seasons in recent history during 2025, investing in roads, airports, ferries, and transit systems across Alaska. With STIP Amendment #2 approved, the department aims to maintain this momentum into 2026 by collaborating with state and federal partners.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities manages 237 airports, nine ferries serving 35 communities along 3,500 marine miles, over 5,600 miles of highway, and 839 public facilities throughout Alaska. Its mission is “Keep Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.”
