Alaska Airlines said on April 30 that it completed its first nonstop flight between Seattle and Rome, marking the start of daily seasonal service on this route through October 23.
The new connection is significant for both leisure and business travelers, as Seattle-Tacoma International Airport welcomed the European route as one of the largest previously unserved markets. The airport said the addition supports increased international passenger volumes and strengthens its role as a global gateway for the Pacific Northwest, according to the Port of Seattle.
Alaska Airlines announced the launch in a post on its official X account following the successful inaugural flight. The announcement detailed the start of daily nonstop service from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Rome Fiumicino Airport on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, according to Alaska Airlines’ official X account.
The United States remains the world’s largest aviation market with hundreds of millions of passengers annually, driving demand for expanded international routes like this one to Europe. Transatlantic connectivity continues to grow as U.S. carriers add direct links to key destinations, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Alaska Airlines operates as a major U.S. carrier with a fleet serving more than 140 destinations across North America, Central America, Asia and the Pacific. Headquartered in SeaTac, Washington, the airline is part of Alaska Air Group and focuses on delivering care and performance on every flight, according to Alaska Airlines’ official website. The airline supports sustainability initiatives including a goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040; has been recognized for its Mileage Plan frequent flyer program and commitment to customer service; is a member of the oneworld global airline alliance; serves more than 120 destinations across North America and Central America; prioritizes award-winning customer service and guest care; and extends operations to more than 120 destinations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Belize—all according to Alaska Airlines’ official website.
